Mr. Dan Pribble

Bobby and Charlene Lawrence have been teaching karate since 1977. Their philosophy of martial arts is simple: karate is a vehicle for learning how to live a more successful, meaningful life. They like to work hard, sweat lots, and have fun. They also believe that martial arts training should be practical, hence their devotion to Kwon Shu Karate, a progressive system of martial arts steeped in steeped in traditional values such as honor, integrity, and respect.

Bobby Lawrence Karate, sometimes referred to as Kwon Shu Karate, is an eclectic system of martial arts. Bobby Lawrence began his karate training in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1970 while he was still in high school. His formal and more serious karate training actually began in 1972 when Bobby entered college in San Bernardino, California under a strict system of martial arts taught by Master Richard Callahan.

In 1977 Bobby moved his small family, consisting of himself, his wife Charlene, and their infant son, Justus, to Provo, Utah so Bobby could pursue a post graduate degree. While in Provo Bobby began studying Tei Fu Chen Kung Fu.

In 1982, Bobby met Ed Parker, joined Mr. Parker's International Kenpo Karate Association and became one of Mr. Parker's direct students. In 1990, Mr. Parker passed away. Shortly thereafter most of Mr. Parker's organization disintegrated. And at the request of Bobby's students he continued teaching and as a result Bobby Lawrence Karate was eventually developed.

Master Callahan's martial arts heritage traces back through several sources, including Oshima's Shotokan, Tak Kubota, and Al and Malia Decascos and Ed Parker. In 1969, in a gathering of martial arts masters Master Callahan was given an opportunity to present his own system which he called Hung Li Gung Fu. The masters approved of his system and recognized Master Callahan as a master.

Fu Chen's martial arts history has been traced back to his sickly childhood and resulting introduction to martial arts in Taiwan. Chen advanced in various martial arts in the Orient and eventually moved to Utah to pursue advanced degrees in chemistry. Chen had also studied Chinese medicine, allegedly from long lost Shaolin Temple scrolls detailing esoteric formulas for healthful herbs and kung fu longevity exercises. While at BYU Chen also competed in regional Judo tournaments. Chen was well known for his Katate juji jime choking techniques.

Ed Parker is known as the Father of American Karate and the Grandmaster of American Kenpo Karate. His martial arts heritage traces back to the famous William Kwai Sun Chow who had studied his families' kung fu system and James Mitose's Japanese Kempojujitsu system. Ed Parker was a true innovator and encouraged students to become engineers of motion.

In addition to studying with the three masters listed above, Bobby Lawrence has become a true student of the martial arts. As he travels to tournaments and similar gatherings of martial arts, he has come to recognize that all styles of the martial arts have several positive aspects.

Mr. Van Deusen
With nearly 25 years experience in the Martial Arts, Mr. Van Deusen's accomplishments are numerous. Holding a first degree in Shaolin Kempo and a fifth degree in American Kenpo, his commitment to learning has only increased over the years. That commitment to learn has made him one of the most sought after seminar instructors in the world. Conducting seminars in the US, Mexico, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, India, and Italy to name a few. He has won Grand Championship titles at tournaments in North America, including Hawaii, and as far away as Australia and New Zealand. Mr. Van Deusen began teaching the martial arts at age 14. Since that time he has educated thousands of men, women and children in the art of Self-Defense and personal development. With over ten years of study in what elicits peak performance in human beings, there is no doubt that Mr. Van Deusen's calling in life is assisting people of all ages to reach there maximum potential.
Bobby Lawrence
Mr. Steve Hearring is the instructor and owner of Two Dragons Martial Arts & Physical Fitness Studio located in Pasadena CA. Mr. Hearring has over 35 years of Martial Arts experience. He has shared his knowledge through instruction for the last 26 years.

In 1964, Mr. Hearring's training started in Shotokan Karate, a Japanese style of Martial Arts. Three years later he switched to Kenpo and became one of Ed Parker's personal students. In 1972 Mr. Hearring earned a Black Belt in Kenpo Karate.

In 1985, his search for further martial arts knowledge led him to Sifu Marvin Owon at which time he was introduced to Northern and Southern Chinese styles and weapons.

Additionally, Mr. Hearring has trained in and teaches Yuan-style Tai-Chi, long and short set, and Tai-Chi sword.

Professor Bob Mitchell first started taking Martial Arts in the early 1960's with Mr. David Nuuhiwa, Senior. Professor Mitchell took his fighting from the street and the knowledge that Mr. Nuuhiwa supplied, and started his career in American Kenpo, at Ed Parker’s IKKA Karate Studio ran by Bob Perry, in Garden Grove, Ca.

Mr. Mitchell During this time studied with the Top names of American Kenpo and with the help of Mr. Parker and Mr. Perry became a fierce competitor and respected Martial Artist. Mr. Mitchell received his Black Belt from Mr. Parker on September 11, 1971 and has continued to give back the Knowledge he has learned to many students through the years.

Mr. Mitchell was a very respected fighter of his time and was successful in taking his share of awards in State & International competitions. Professor Mitchell began competing in 1966, at the International Karate Championships in Long Beach, Ca. He was on the first IKKA team to take first place by defeating the Chuck Norris team in the finales. In that match, the IKKA team was down 3 points going into the final match when Mr. Mitchell defeated his man by 4 points to take the championships. In the 1970’s Professor Mitchell went on to be awarded “Fighter of the Year” at the IKKA awards banquet. In 1975 Mr. Mitchell was honored by Black Belt Magazine by being put on the cover of their annual yearbook edition. After retiring from competition Mr. Mitchell trained and bodyguard for some of the best street protection specialist in California. In 1983 Mr. Mitchell came out of retirement to fight along side of Mr. Bob White, Mr. Dave Brock, Mr. Pete Neil, and Mr. Rick Shanbrook, and took 1st place at the “International Karate Championships” in team competition.

Professor Mitchell is an outstanding Instructor and Coach. Although Professor Mitchell prefers the bare knuckle fighting done in the 1960’s and 1970’s his arsenal of inside fighting techniques has developed many of his students into the champions of today. Professor Mitchell states that his greatest achievement is teaching young kids. “Watching children develop out of their shells and giving them the confidence to achieve their goals make them champions in Life”.

Mr. Mitchell is the promoter of “United Martial Artists for Christ”, a fellowship that is close to his heart. Professor Mitchell feels there is only one true Master, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Mr. Cazales began his formal Martial Arts training in Mexico City, Mexico on June 1975 under the Instruction of Angel Marguez, President and Founder of the Toyama Karate-Do Organization, named after Hansi Toyama Kanken, Sensei to Angel Marquez.

Mr. Cazales received his Black Belt on November 6, 1980 along with 250 other graduates.  He came to the United States looking for  a better future for his children, working as a janitor, waiter, delivery boy, and finally his true profession as the first Toyama Karate-Do Instructor in the United States. He began to teach at Jerome Community Center in 1990, and having 200 students under his supervision.  As a result of his dedication and the desire to teach others, he established his first Studio in the City of Santa Ana in 1993. With over 27 years of Karate experience he holds a 5th Degree Black Belt in the World Professional Martial Arts Organization as well as in Toyama Karate- Do Organization. His Instructors license was issued by the Toyama Karate-Do Organization in Mexico City, and was recognized by the World Professional Black Belt Martial Arts Organization in the United States.

He has graduated over 350 Black Belts who have trained under his discipline, which include his two children who are now heading the Toyama Karate-Do Organization along with him.  He has been selected as the Senator of the Youth Development Sports Association, and also a leader in Promoting Karate-Do in the City of Santa Ana, and Tustin.  The City of Santa Ana has given him numerous awards for running one of the best programs that has kept most of the youth out of drugs and gangs.

He has also been selected as a Martial Arts Master of the Year, for the Martial Arts Hall of Fame in several years.  His hard work has now taken a bigger commitment, running a successful after-school program for the third consecutive year, with 570 kids who train for free, from 18 different Santa Ana schools at ¼ of the cost to the district, making an in-kind donation of $144,000 per year.  This program is called Youth Developing Self-Discipline through Martial Arts.

He is a great example for the youth, participating in career fairs, city events, seminars, tournaments and much more. Sensei Cazales is a true example of a leader, because a true leader treats others as equal, helps, inspires, leads, teaches, learns, cries, and the most forgotten by many leaders, is to never take for granted those who follow and believe in us.

Mr. Cazales
